Vale Frank Hanrahan

23 March 2026

Ballarat National Theatre and its members are saddened by the passing of Frank Hanrahan.

We are still documenting our company archives, but so far we have identified that Frank contributed extensively to the company by lighting over 20 productions between 1989 and 2009 including, The Odd Couple, A Hard God, Past Loves, Snake in the Grass, The Diary Of Anne Frank, 84 Charing Cross Road, No Time On, The Sunshine Boys, Trap for a Lonely Man, A Voyage Round My Father, Pack Of Lies, Portrait of MurderWhat the Butler Saw, Whose Life is it Anyway, Busybody, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Say Who You Are, A Clanging Cymbal, Quartet, Rumours, How the Other Half Loves, Relatively Speaking, and Habeas Corpus.

Every production and season is possible because of a large number of people that aren’t visible when the audience are looking at the stage, but Frank was the exact person responsible for making sure those on stage were visible to that audience. Our thanks to Frank for being one of the many threads that make up the tapestry that tells the story of our community. May we remember the our contribution is tied to his on that same tapestry as we celebrate his decades of work.

Vale.
