Emotions are very strained between husband and wife Margaret and Bob McDonnell because Bob has been drinking heavily since a family tragedy some 20 years ago. To add to this, their daughter, Desley is in love with a young man born of Italian parents. The prejudicial Bob cannot accept this until a conversation at the local pub changes his point of view.
