Company history on the website

25 November 2024

Evelyn and Liana are in the process of developing the website to suit our archival needs. As most of you are aware we got a grant to have the website updated and the new site has been implemented. A big part of that grant’s purpose was to enable us to ensure BNT’s history in the Ballarat community was documented and accessible.

We are now taking the fragments historic information that we have already and finding ways to store that information on the website in ways we can utilise for telling the story of the company. We have begun with key information like names of directors and playwrights, performance venues and season dates. We will continue with information about the cast and crew and any photos and programs that are uncovered.

This has meant a clean up of information about our previous productions which have had very noticeable errors like spelling of titles of plays brought over from the old website. The corrected information has been presented through a revamp of Sonja Kinnersly’s 50 Golden Years of history.

Using the information about playwrights we have been able to develop a page showing the common playwrights that appear in our history, as well as Australian playwrights, local playwrights and plays we have staged more than once. More content will be able to be showcased on the page as it is developed. The page is titled Snapshot of Plays of BNT.

We have also created a page for our history of Awards and Nominations. For now it only shows recent information, but our plan it have a place to showcase this history right back to the internal awards of the 60s and the National Theatre movement one act play festivals of the 1940s. That page is titled Award and Nomination History.

Our Past Productions page has also been broken up into decades, as well as including a panel with the latest productions that have been updated. This panel will show you the latest productions to have had information added or corrected, with a quick link for you to take a look at them.
