BALLARAT NATIONAL THEATRE PROUDLY PRESENTS SHELAGH DELANEY'S

"A TASTE OF HONEY"

This Play was first presented by Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal, Stratford, 27 May, 1958.

The Play is in two parts and set in a Manchester Masonette in the late 50s.

About the Director

Ray has been in theatre for many years. After starting with Rockhampton Little Theatre. He has been a member of Malvern Drama Group, Mackay Community Theatre, Viaduct, and Lyric Theatres. He has been involved back stage, acting, set design and produced. In Ballarat he has been in Guys and Dolls, Only an Orphan Girl and designed the set for I Do I Do.

About the Playwright

SHELAGH DELANEY was born and brought up in Salford, Lancashire. Her first play, A Taste of Honey, was originally presented by Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal, Stratford, London, in May 1958. The Lion in Love, her second play, was first performed at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, and then at the Royal Court Theatre, London. In 1964 she published a collection of short stories entitled Sweetly Sings the Donkey.

Lively personality has brought sparkle to her roles in "Irene" and "Guvs and Dolls" for Lvric Theatre and a delightful touch of comedy in their two melodramas "Chaste Across the Stage" and "Only an Orphan Girl".

Athalie came to Ballarat from Bendigo 5 years ago with her husband Luigi to open La Scala Restaurant. Her interest in theatre began with Bendigo Repertory Society which she joined in 1974. Her major role with one ist, was in Phil King's farce "See How They Run". First role with B.N. T. and is looking forward to a long association with theatre in Ballarat.

PHI SEKHON

The Boy

Another newcomer to B.N.T. ranks, Phi is an English and Drama Teacher at St. Martin's in the Pines. He has worked in Radio and TV in Malaysia, written a prize winning play and had wide experience in theatre. He lives in Ballarat and is married with three children.

NOEL DAVIS

Geoffrey

Noel began his theatrical career with Ballarat Lyric Theatre in 1972 being cast as the title role in Oliver. Since this, he has been involved in every Lyric show. After completing a two vear Television and Dramatic Arts course in Melbourne, this is his first play with National Theatre.
