About Brief Encounters
A short monologue from
DON'T LISTEN LADIES by SACHA GUITRY
Julian Oldfield
THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED
by TENNESSEE (TOM) WILLIAMS
Amanda Sobey & Matt Hustwaite
(Dialect Coach - Belinda Clark)
One of William's early works which already shows many typical aspects of his later characters, themes and images. As in 'Glass Menagerie' he gives the boy his own name 'Tom'; and the girl shows many of the traits of Laura & Amanda in 'Menagerie' and Blanche in 'Streetcar’.
OH!
by N.F. SIMPSON
Peppa Sindar & Julian Oldfield
This sketch is nearer to the Nonsense style of an earlier age than to the 'Theatre of the Absurd' genre of this authors larger and later plays.

"Brief Encounters" but lasting enjoyment.
We all know how cold the Ballarat nights are but don't let that put you off venturing to Ballarat National Theatre's night of Brief Encounters at the SMB Courthouse Theatre. The theatre is warn and welcoming, the actors are multi-talented and the program provides a thespian smorgasbord of varied delights.
The encounters range from the cynical humour of Don't Listen Ladies, through moving pathos and the absurdity of Oh!, to true comedy in Red Carnations and The Trysting Place.
They showcase the talents of well-known actors from both Ballarat and further afield, and introduce some impressive young talent. Amanda Sobey is particularly outstanding as the young girl in Tennessee Williams' This Property Is Condemned.
If lively entertainment appeals to you, don't miss Brief Encounters.
