On the magical fantasy Discworld, in a kingdom called Lancre, the Land has woken up and it’s unhappy. It wants a King that cares for it, but it’s got a mad Duke who hates the trees and the witches, and definitely committed murder to get the throne. In the dark of the night out on the heath, three witches lean over a bubbling cauldron to figure out how to put things right.

Wyrd Sisters is one of the first books in the Discworld comedy fantasy series. Each story is a humorous standalone reflection of something we have in our society, shone back at the audience with wit and Monty Python-style humour. This particular Discworld story is where Terry Pratchett takes Shakespeare’s Macbeth, King Lear, and Hamlet, and then turns them up ’till they reach eleven.

It’s all there – a wicked duke and duchess, the ghost of the murdered king, dim soldiers, strolling players, and a Land in peril. And who stands between the Kingdom and destruction? Three witches. Granny Weatherwax (intolerant, self-opinionated, powerful), Nanny Ogg (down-to-earth, vulgar), and Magrat Garlick (naïve, fond of occult jewellery and bunnies). It’s Hubble Bubble Toil and Trouble but the witches are the heroes this time.

Yvonne was part of Ballarat National Theatre for over 50 years. One of only two Platinum Honorary Life Members, BNT's highest Award. Brian McClelland, President at the time, was trying to think of an award higher than Honorary Life Member as Yvonne and Wendy Hall had been such hard-working members for so long that he felt a further acknowledgment was in order.

Yvonne first joined the BNT Board in 1974 and since then has been a prompter, front-of-house volunteer, constant audience member hardly missing a play, and the number one bump in caterer for many years. In fact, Yvonne's fruit cake will live long in many memories as the reason they volunteered for bump in!
We are sad to say farewell to Yvonne as her good humour always brightened any meeting.

She will be greatly missed.

We are very excited to announce that submissions for our next season are now open! If you've been thinking of directing a show or bringing a story to life, now is the time to make a submission.

This year members will be able to read all submissions, without identifying information about the director. They will then have the opportunity to provide a one-answer response letting the board know their interest level in seeing the production, or put their hand up to provide more detailed feedback for the board to think about when considering the submission for selection. Unsure if you have an active membership? Email us or sign in to HelloClub.

Interested in making a submission for our next season?

Fill in the Expression of Interest form to receive by email:
- Submission link
- Guide to making a submission
- Information about directing with BNT
- The Director's Pack that is provided to successful directors

The Expression of Interest form is available here.

If you have made a submission for a previous season that you would like considered for this one, make sure to submit it via the form for it to be in this selection round.

Submissions close July 24

BNT board members Juliette Cavendish and Megan J Rield have had to make the choice to step down from their roles on the board. We're very grateful for their bright, experienced contributions in the time we were able to have them volunteering in her roles. Thank you, Juliette and Megan!
